We are a unique school within the Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools situated in the beautiful all season resort town of Sylvan Lake. We opened our school in September of 2000 as part of a multi-campus facility with Fox Run Middle School of Chinook’s Edge School Division. Our schools operate independently of each other but we share common spaces in the middle. These include three full-size gyms, a fine arts centre, a commercial kitchen, a foods and fashions lab, and a/construction lab. We are very proud of our shared facility and the opportunities available for both schools and the town of Sylvan Lake.
École Mother Teresa Catholic School has approximately 400 students (and growing) from Grade 5 - 9. We offer a wonderful French Immersion program and currently has over 100 students enrolled from Grade 5-9. Our Grade 9 students move to St. Joseph High School or École Notre Dame High School to complete their French Immersion diploma.
The goal of French Immersion is to immerse students in the French language throughout the school day. French Immersion permits the child to become fluently bilingual at a time in their life when language is easily acquired. French Immersion is a great learning opportunity for all students. We provide special programming if your child is in need of a challenge or has areas of growth; we are able to meet their learning needs. French Immersion is a program of choice, open to all children of the appropriate ages. There is no particular criterion for selection and there is no special fee for registration. We promote a strong Catholic focus in our school and are working with the parish and community to establish a strong foundation for our students. We offer special needs programming, early literacy programs, and speech support to our students. Our students in Middle school (Grades 6-9), have the opportunity to participate on various sports teams such as Volleyball, Basketball, Badminton and Track & Field. Students can also become active in Student Council, participate in school clubs and use all the CTS facilities. Students of all grades can also participate in the Environmental Club, Mother Teresa Helping Hands, Ski/Snowboard Club and Quebec Trip club (French Immersion students).
